Samsung to showcase its Tizen OS devices in MWC 2014.
Finally, the wait for Tizen powered devices will be over soon. Looks like Samsung will be introducing their new devices running on Tizen OS during Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which will be held on the 23rd of February 2014.
Samsung has sent invitations which says, “”an exclusive sneak preview of the newest Tizen devices as well as an opportunity to learn about the major milestones that the Tizen project has hit since last year’s event.”
Tizen OS has a long history. It started off from Maemo OS from Nokia which was later merged with Intel’s Moblin OS. With the collaboration of Nokia and Intel, Meego OS project was started. The first Meego phone was Nokia N9 but unfortunately, that was the first and last Meego phone that was launched. Even before the N9 arrived into the market, Stephen Elop, the then CEO of Nokia, has officially announced the ‘death’ of this highly potential operating system and pulled out from this Meego project.
Samsung was smart enough to make use of the opportunity. The project was taken over by them and together with Intel, they continue developing the operating system with the a new name – Tizen OS. I personally have high expectation on this Tizen OS because I’ve used Meego OS before and seriously, it was so awesome that I even felt that this will be the best rival for Android. It was unfortunate that Meego OS did not last long but hopefully this Tizen OS will continue the journey and be one of the best mobile operating system one day.
